Adding Video (Youtube and Panopto)

You can add video to your Blackboard Ultra Course learning content in a number of ways.

You can add Youtube, Vimeo or other external provider videos to Learning content in a document or as a link.

We recommend using Panopto to record and deliver student and lecturer created video. Find out how to add a Panopto video to Learning content

Instructions

 

Adding a Youtube video into a document

You can add YouTube videos alongside text and other media in your documents in your weekly Learning content :

First we start by creating a document.

  1. Mouse over where you want to add your document, click on the plus icon.

 

  1. This brings up the add content context menu, select Create

This will bring up the Create Item menu on the right hand side of your screen.

  1. Select Document from the list:

 

This creates the new Document, select how you want to add content to the document.

  1. In this case select Add Content.

 

This opens up the content editor.

  1. First click on the document title to give the document a more intuitive name:

 

  1. Next add your text content, when you’re ready to add the video, click on the plus icon in the content editor menu. This opens up the Insert content menu, select YouTube video

 

  1. This brings up the Search YouTube interface, add your search terms into the search box and click Search.

 

  1. Select any of the video results, this will open Edit Content Settings.

Here you can preview the video and if you are not happy with the selection, click on Back to Results.

  1. If you are happy with the selection, add the Alternative text and select how you want to Display content.

When you are happy with your selection click on Insert.

 

This will insert the YouTube video into the document.

  1. Click Save to ensure the changes to the Document are saved. The document will now appear in your list of Learning content.

 

Adding video as a link in the Learning content

  1. Mouse over where you want to add your document, click on the plus icon.

 

  1. This brings up the add content context menu, select Create

This will bring up the Create Item menu on the right hand side of your screen.

  1. Select Link from the list:

 

 

  1. This brings up the Web Link settings dialogue box . Add the Link URL for the video (in this case Vimeo), a description and intuitive Display Name, then click on Save.

The video link will appear in your Learning Content, note the link icon.
