Tip: In Vevox a Poll refers to a single question.

The Create a new poll prompt appears. Chose Question type e.g.  multichoice, enter a question in the Question title box, an optional image and the answers in the Choices text boxes. NB the number of choices increases as you add your answers.

Set the Correct answer, number of Allowed selections the students can make and optional Correct Answer explanation then click Create.

Repeat this step for each quiz question or use AI to generate questions by clicking on the magic wand icon.

Then type in your prompt and click on the generate icon

  1. Generate questions with AI quiz

Select the drop-down arrow on the Create New button and select AI quiz

This brings up the AI question prompt. Type in your prompt, select the number of questions and then select Generate.

You can repeat the generate step to produce more questions.

Tip: experiment with the wording of your prompts

Check your questions and answers, AI quiz generators may generate irrelevant, erroneous or biassed results.

You can edit, move or duplicate questions by clicking on the three dots.

Once you’ve generated your questions and checked the answers, you’re ready to embed your quiz in your blackboard learning content.

  1. Add your quiz to Blackboard.

Vevox is an add-on to Blackboard; therefore you need to use Content Market to add it to Blackboard learning content.

Within the course Content area, go to the location you wish to add your poll e.g. Week 5 folder, click on the circle with the plus to add content:

This opens the Add content menu… select Content Market.

This opens up the list of ‘Institution tools’, arranged in alphabetic order, select Vevox.

This opens up the Vevox tool, select the session that contains your quiz …

Then select Live polling

Then select whether you want participants to be Anonymous or Identified e.g. whether you want the participants’ marks sent to the grade centre.

  • Anonymous = Participants are fully anonymous therefore no grading information can be passed back to the VLE/LMS

  • Identified = Names will be hidden for other participants but the participants identity will be visible in the data reports and will pass back correct answer grading information to the VLE/LMS

As it’s live I chose Anonymous to encourage participation, then click Done.

4. Changing the name of the quiz in Blackboard

You can use the ellipsis (three dots) to access drop down menu. Select the Edit option to give the activity a more intuitive name.

This opens up the right hand settings panel. Click on the name of your quiz.

Delete the old name using the backspace, then type in the new name and then click on Save.

5.Launching your quiz.

Click on the quiz name in Blackboard to launch the activity.

This opens up the Vevox tool inside Blackboard, select Open in New tab.

This takes you through to the activity in the Vevox dashboard.

You need to open the session and the poll to give participants access to the quiz

Click on Open Poll.

Then use the bottom panel to set the timer if required e.g.  to 10 sec

Once you are ready to run the poll in the class, click on Present Fullscreen

The Vevox screen will contain the question, QR code and Session ID for participants’ access. At the bottom of the question screen, there’s a controller which allows you to control playback of the quiz (If it is not visible, hover your mouse over the bottom of the screen).

To begin the quiz, start the timer by clicking the stopwatch, this counts down the time on the question (poll). When the timer has counted down, the poll closes and students can no longer enter answers for that question.

Click on the large tick to show the correct answer to the class.

This displays the percentage of students who selected each option, the correct answer and explanation.

Click on the central button to go to the next question, start the timer when you are ready, continue for all questions in the quiz.

  1. Students’ participation

Students can participate by either scanning the QR code with their phones, entering “vevox.app” into the address bar of their browser and entering their Session ID or clicking the quiz link in Blackboard.

This takes the student into the question screen:

You’ll see the students’ selections come through into the Vevox dashboard:

At the end the leader board is displayed. The winner of the quiz with be notified on their screen.
