Offline assessments using Blackboard Learn Ultra
Blackboard assignments have a setting ‘Collect submissions offline’. This allows you to create an assignment with a rubric and a due date so even though the students are not actually making an electronic submission they can view the due dates, marks and feedback in Blackboard.
This is a useful setting for in person assessments such as oral presentations, artwork or other physical artefacts, performances etc.
Instructions
Navigate to the folder / section you want to place the drop box in.
Click on the + icon
In the menu, select Create to open the Create Item panel and select Assignment.
The New Assignment page opens
Select the cog icon to open the Assignment Settings.
Once open you can set due date (usually the date on which the presentation, performance, etc., takes place, or use the option No Due Date) and then select ‘Collect submissions online.’
Scroll through the settings and make sure 'Post assessment marks automatically' is not selected.
If you want to attach a Blackboard rubric or set up as a group assignment, you can select these options at the bottom of the panel, under 'Additional Tools'.
Once you are happy with the assignment settings click on Save.
If you are using a Blackboard rubric and want your students to see this prior to receiving their grades and feedback, you will need to set the assignment to 'Visible to students'. Otherwise you can leave it set to 'Hidden from students'.
