Copying Blackboard tests between modules

Blackboard tests can be copied from one module to another in Ultra. It is also possible to copy tests from modules in Blackboard Original into Ultra Course View. If you have saved Blackboard Original tests as .zip files, you can import these into Ultra.

If your test contains questions which are unsupported question types in Ultra, these questions will be removed during copy/ import.

If you have a test with a large number of unsupported questions or tests which have been created using other systems, you can migrate tests, using Respondus, an external piece of software.

For most tests, you can choose either of the methods below to copy an existing test within a module or to another of your modules in Blackboard. A copied test is always hidden by default. You need to make it visible for students to take the test.

Copy tests from one module to another

In Ultra Course View you can copy tests from other Ultra modules as well as Original modules, just as you would copy other types of content.

 Instructions

  1. On the Course Content page, where you would like the test to appear, select + Copy Content

  1. At the bottom of the Copy Items panel, click Start Copy.

  2. When the test has been copied, it will appear in the folder or area that you added it to.

In an instance that a test is not imported successfully, a message will indicate this and you can click ‘Learn more’, to find out what questions did not replicate correctly.

Always check your test after it has copied. You will need to re-write your test instructions and add feedback for correct/ incorrect answers.

Import questions from .zip file to Ultra

If you have Blackboard Original tests saved as .zip file, e.g. on your device or on OneDrive, these can be added to a module in Ultra by importing into the main Course Content area.

 Instructions

  1. On the Course Content page, select  the 3 elipses (…)

  1. Choose Import Content.

  2. Find the .zip test file, e.g. on your device or in OneDrive cloud storage.

  1. Click Open to begin the import.

  2. Your test(s) will appear at the bottom of the Course Content area in a folder named Undeployed Tests.

  1. Check your test(s) when the import is complete.

  2. Move your test(s) to another folder or area in the module to make them available for use.

A Gradebook item is created when you import tests into Ultra. Therefore, if you do not use a test in the Undeployed Tests folder, you should delete the unused tests in this folder, in order to get rid of unused Gradebook items.
