Creating a Turnitin assignment dropbox

To create a Turnitin assignment dropbox in Blackboard,  access your Blackboard Learn module and identify where you wish to place the assignment dropbox.

NB It is recommended that you set up a separate dropbox for resits and late submissions.

 Instructions

  1. Navigate to the folder / section you want to place the drop box in.

  2. Click on the + icon

  3. Then click on ‘Content Market’

  4. Content Market shows all the tools integrated with Blackboard, select and click on Turnitin to set up the dropbox

  5. This will open up the Turnitin assignment dropbox settings window

Assessment Code of Practice advises

  • Using the format: Coursework # Title (##%) for your assignment title e.g. ‘Coursework 1 Post-modernist painters Essay (40%)’. This will help you and your students locate the assessment and make it clear how the student’s final grade is calculated.

… set up a new Turnitin drop box by entering a title, instructions and start, due and feedback dates using the dropdown calendars

or

or copy Turnitin dropboxes from previous modules by selecting Copy assignments from previously created assignments

Select an Assignment to Copy by searching for a previous module by entering your module code in the search box.

Select the checkboxes beside any Turnitin dropboxes to copy and select Copy. You can then add in new start, due and feedback dates and then click Save to import the assignments.

  1. Adjust the Optional settings for your dropbox and click on Submit to create the dropbox.

NB: When you click Submit a column for this assignment will be created automatically in Gradebook.

Add an academic integrity statement and marker disclaimer

Assessment Code of Practice advises

  • Students' compliance with the student declaration at the point of submission, the declaration can be found in the Learning Object Repository

  • That the release of marks should be accompanied by the following statement:

    “Marks provided on Blackboard Ultra are subject to ratification by the Board of Examiners and may be subject to change. Please note that as these marks are provisional, they do not necessarily include any penalties applied for academic misconduct.”

  • N.B. The declaration and disclaimer are included in the 25/26 Blackboard module template.

After you have created your assignment, remember to check the Gradebook column is hidden from student view.
