This section explains how to upload your assignment to a Turnitin drop box. You can recognise a Turnitin dropbox by the rocket icon image-20240925-114058.png

Turnitin assignment dropboxes are used to check for plagiarism by generating similarity reports.

Supported file types

Your file must be saved in a recognisable text format to generate a similarity report. Save your file in one of the following formats including: Microsoft Word (file.doc or file.docx), Plain text (file.txt), Rich Text Format (file.rtf), PDF with highlightable text (file.pdf)

 Instructions

  1. Navigate to the Turnitin dropbox via the Gradebook, Calendar Due dates or Assessment and Feedback folder in Course Content in your module.

 

  1. Click on the name of the actual Turnitin drop box (with the image-20240925-114058.png rocket shaped icon beside it).

  2. This opens up assignment information panel at the side of your screen. You will then need to click on Launch, it will be located to the lower left of your screen, to open the Turnitin interface.

  3. This opens the Turnitin dropbox, you can access information about the dropbox by clicking on the name of assignment beside the arrow.

 

or just click on Upload Submission, this opens the Submit File menu

 

 

  1. You can then upload your assignment by clicking on Choose file, or dragging and dropping your assignment or accessing it via Cloud Submission (i.e OneDrive)

  1. Select your file, make sure it is correct, rename it if required and then click on Upload and Review

  1. Once you are happy that it is correct, click on Submit to Turnitin. Remember to check if you’re uploading the right file format

 

8. You will get a confirmation that submission is complete

9. You will then be able to download your digital receipt:

For resubmissions to the same drop box (if allowed to resubmit until the due date) click on the up arrow to begin the submission process again

Full list of support file types

If an assignment is set to allow only files that Turnitin can check for similarity, Turnitin will only accept files that can generate Similarity Reports. This includes:

  • files less than 100MB,

  • files with a minimum of 20 words

  • file less than 800 pages

  • Microsoft Word (DOC and DOCX)

  • Corel WordPerfect

  • HTML

  • Adobe PostScript

  • Plain text (TXT)

  • Rich Text Format (RTF)

  • Portable Document Format (PDF)

  • OpenOffice (ODT)
