From September 2024, all new Blackboard modules/courses will use the Blackboard Ultra interface. As with the previous version, you’ll need to use Module Manager to set up a Blackboard module for each new semester.
(Unless you are teaching on a Global Online Education distance learning, when you need to contact the Blackboard Help Desk)
As we are changing over to a new template, you will NOT be able to ROLLOVER the previous version of the module. Instead you will be given a blank Ultra template. You can still manually COPY CONTENT from previous modules once the new module has been set up.
📘 Instructions
Navigate to the Module Manager
Enter your staff number and Network (Blackboard and Portal) password and click on the login button.
Next mouse over the Modules tab and then select Access.
The Module Access page then provides options for requesting access, make sure the Request access tab is selected.
Enter your module code in the Module code input box.
The academic year defaults to the current year, until closer to start of the academic year normally around July, when it will default to the next academic year. Make sure you chose the correct academic year for your course.
The page will automatically update to show you the versions of the module available in the academic year selected. Check the CRN of your module then select the Instructor access level from the dropdown menu.
Check the CRN of the module. There may be several versions of the same module, each with a different CRN, double check the start date and the campus to make sure your selection is correct.
If no one else has set up the new module, you’ll see the option to change the start date of the course, this date coincides with the start of the semester. Only change the date if your module falls outside the standard teaching semesters.
Then press submit. This will create a new blank Ultra template for the Autumn 24 semester which will appear in the Upcoming Courses section of Blackboard courses until their start date arrives.
Your new empty course template will look like this:
Now you are ready to:
create new learning content or copy content from previous modules
set up new Blackboard or TurnItIn assignments
You can chose an alternate module structure*, and/or copy content from a previous module. Note the Blackboard Ultra structure is only two folders deep so you may need to redesign* or redistribute your learning material.
