Your new Blackboard Ultra teaching module will contain an empty template, but you can easily copy content across from your older module.

The Ultra folder structure is two folders deep that means not all previous folder structures can be replicated in the new template.

Copying a document or folder from an existing module
You can easily copy a document or content folder from an existing Blackboard original or Ultra module e.g. Week 1 folder in Blackboard original.

Copying from Blackboard Original is only suitable for XXX use copying TO Blackboard Ultra to copy …
You can continue to copy folders and documents from within Blackboard original by using the drop-down arrow beside the item and select Copy. For instance I can copy a Week 1 folder across using this method.
This opens the Copy dialogue box, select the Destination Course
… and Destination folder and press Submit.
Blackboard Original copying exceptions
Blackboard Original Content such as Tests, Surveys, Blackboard dropboxes, SCORMS will not copy FROM Blackboard Original. Nested folder structures will not stay intact.
On pressing submit, there was a warning telling me an item didn’t copy. This was a SCORM file so it won’t copy from Blackboard Original
Check your Destination folder for the copied items. Due to Ultra’s 3 level hierarchy, a maximum depth of two folders is allowed, therefore a folder has been displaced from the original course folder structure.
Copy a folder or document TO Blackboard Ultra module

In your new blank Ultra module, at the top of the course content area, click the ellipsis (three dots)
Select Copy Items from the menu
This will bring up the Copy Items dialogue box. Enter your module code in the Course name or ID search box.
Click on the course that contains the folder or document you wish to copy.
Then navigate to the folder you wish to copy. The Week 1 folder is located in the Learning content folder. So I click on Learning Content …
then I select the tick box beside the Week 1 folder and select Start Copy.
After a few seconds the folder will copy across.
Copying from Blackboard Original to Blackboard Ultra may generate except notices. Don’t worry, these will normally be caused by formatting issues notified of any issues in an Exceptions warning. Click on the warning and review the Exception Report.
This warning is telling me there may be formatting issues with the content I copied across. I will review the content inside the folder to check for errors.
The copied folder will appear at the bottom of the Course content list.
By default, the folder and its contents will be hidden from students, click the down arrow review the files and folders.

As Blackboard Ultra has a simplified structure, Original courses with nested folders deeper than three levels will have their folder structure changed to reflect the Ultra structure.
