When you select Groups from the menu in a module, you will be able to see any Groups that you have been assigned to. If your lecturer has enabled Class conversations for individual content items, or in a group Assignment, you can discuss the content with your classmates.

  • Group assignments

  • Tests

  • Group tests

  • Offline submissions

  • Links to teaching tools

Conversations appear beside the relevant content, they do not appear in Discussions.

You can access the conversations by clicking on the Open class conversation icon in the upper-right corner of an item's page. A purple circle appears to indicate new activity.

  1. You can begin a new response or reply to conversations that have been posted there.

How do I communicate with members in my group?

Message and email

All groups automatically allow members to message each other within ultra. Messages sent within groups are saved and are always visible to view by your lecturer.

  1. Select the Members tab.

  2. Click Message group to message your group or individuals within the group.

You can choose to send an email copy of the message if you wish.

Webinar via Class Collaborate

If your lecturer has enabled class conversations in, for example, a Blackboard Group Assignment, you will have the facility to video call (Class Collaborate) with your group online.

  1. Click on the content item.

Why can’t I see my Group?

There are various reasons that you may not be able to see your group. If your lecturer has not yet made the group visible, it will not appear in the Groups area of your module.

Sometimes, you may need to expand the Groupset to see the title of your group. To do this, click the ‘down arrow’ to the right of the groupset name. This will dropdown to show the group that you are in.

How do I join a different group?

If your lecturer has assigned you to a group, you need to contact the lecturer and request to move to a different group. If you accidentally joined a group and would like to change to another self-enrol group, you can select ‘Move to this group’ if the group has not reached capacity.
