Rubrics in Enhanced Turnitin (2026)

When you click on +, Content Market, Turnitin you can access rubrics when your create a new assignment. You access this by clicking on the Rubric tab.

A rubric is a marking grid showing the assignment assessment criteria and performance scales.

The rubric feature enables you to list the marking criteria against set standards. A number of benefits can be achieved from the integration of rubrics:

  • Helps students to focus their efforts to meet the requirements of an assignment

  • Ensures consistent and impartial marking

  • Provides generic feedback

  • Automatic calculation of the assignment mark (optional setting)

Instructions

  1. Select the Rubric tab from the top of the screen.

  2. Select the Create Rubric button at the top right, you have the option to import turnitin rubrics or create new ones. You can also Launch Rubric Manager to manage all of your rubrics.

When you select ‘Create New Rubric’ there are 4 options

  1. Weighted rubric: You are required to enter the weighting for each criteria and the top scale for each column. Once this information is entered, it can used ranged scoring and calculate the overall grade for the assignment you are marking.

  2. Custom rubric: This allows you to enter a specific numerical value directly into each rubric cell when marking.

  3. Qualitative rubric: No numereric scoring. This rubric allows you to highlight what standards students achieve for each criteria. Lecturers can click on the cell to indicate the level a student achieved for each criteria.

  4. Grading Form: A simpler grid to allow you to score or comment on each performance criteria.

You can then set optional additional Rubric Options or Rubric Scoring settings.

a. For weighted rubrics, you can have up to 50 criteria rows and scale columns. You can also choose to enable ranged scoring and/or equal criteria weights.

You can copy over your Rubrics from your previous version of Turnitin.
