  • Input the assignment Title, the format below is advised.

Assessment Code of Practice advises

  • Using the format: Coursework # Title (##%) for your assignment title e.g. ‘Coursework 1 Post-modernist painters Essay (40%)’. This will help you and your students locate the assessment and make it clear how the student’s final grade is calculated.  It is also recommended that you let students know the date you plan on releasing marks and feedback.

  • Input your instructions, Be as clear as you can, you could specify any important details about the assignment and the fact that Turnitin only accepts a single file upload, 40MB limit, and highlight the proposed due date and feedback date. (750 characters max).

  • Set the Max grade, its usually recommended to mark out of 100.

  • Scheduling

    • The Start Date dictates when the students can see the assignment, it defaults to the time of set up.

    • Set the Due Date for the assignment specifying date and time. Bear in mind students can seek support within office hours.

    • Set the Feedback Release Date which dictates when Turnitin will return marks and feedback to students via Blackboard Gradebook.

  • Upload Template: Include cover sheets / template so they they are excluded from the similarity report.

  • Submission Settings: Adjust the settings for your preferences on:

    • allowing late submissions,

    • allowing resubmissions before the due date (students can make up to three submissions to the assignment within 24 hours of their first submission)

    • allowing files of any type (files not compatible with a similarity report).

Rubrics

  • You can attach an existing or create a new rubric under the Rubric Tab (marking grid)

The recommended settings for the Similarity score are listed here:

  • Select ‘General Turnitin Repository’ so that submissions are stored in a general Turnitin repository and can be used for comparison against other submissions from your institution and others OR if its a draft box choose ‘do not store the submitted papers’.

  • Generate report: At time of submission or On Due Date (if you want students to wait until the due date to see their similarity index score).

  • Report Access: You can choose to ‘Allow students to view Similarity Reports’ or not.

  • Exclusions: you can choose to select three exclusions to avoid potential inflations of similarity scores and you can choose “Exclude matches smaller than” and set it to a number of words.

  • Compare Submissions: check all three - General Turnitin repository, Internet content & Periodicals, journals and publications.

Assessment Code of Practice advises

  • Students' compliance with the student declaration at the point of submission, the declaration can be found in the Learning Object Repository

  • that the release of marks should be accompanied by the following statement:

“Marks provided on Blackboard Ultra are subject to ratification by the Board of Examiners and may be subject to change. Please note that as these marks are provisional, they do not necessarily include any penalties applied for academic misconduct.”

  • The declaration and disclaimer are included in the 26/27 Blackboard module template.

  • Set up separate dropboxes for EC1s and resits (so that students get an opportunity to submit multiple times before the new due date, if that option is selected for the box).

Once you have inputted all of your Turnitin settings, click Create Assignment to create the Turnitin Assignment in your Blackboard module.
