Recording and submitting a video presentation
This guide helps you to record a voice over for your presentation. For best results use a desktop/laptop; as recording on a phone or tablet is more complicated.
If you don’t have a laptop, you can go to the library on your nearest campus, where you can also hire laptops.
Instructions
Recording your presentation on PC/ Mac/ Laptop
If you are working on PC/Mac, you can use Powerpoint (desktop version not web) to record a voice-over over your presentation. Powerpoint allows you to record a voice over for each slide, you can then export the series of slides as a video.
In Powerpoint, once you’ve finished editing your presentation, select the Record tab (not available in web version). This gives you recording options, e.g. whether you want a cameo (video in the corner). For a standard voiceover recording select From beginning.
This opens up the recording screen, make sure the microphone is not muted. If you’re recording in Powerpoint for the first time, it will be muted. Click on it to unmute; you will need to allow the software to access your device’s microphone. If you have chosen the cameo option make sure your camera feed is on. Again, you may need to grant Powerpoint access to your camera.
Now you’re ready to record, select the large red button to begin recording. Your audio/video is saved to each slide. Click on the Square red button to stop recording.
You can pause, and press the play button to check playback. Re-recording individual slides if necessary. When you’re finished, close out of the recording window using the x on the left hand side
You’ll see the speaker symbol on slides with a voice-over.
When you’ve finished recording the voiceover for your presentation, select File from the Powerpoint top menu and then Export from the File dropdown menu.
Select MP4 from the File Format menu. Choose Full HD 1080p or HD 750p Quality and then Export.

Recording your presentation on IPhone/IPad
The Powerpoint app does not provide the same inbuilt recording capability as the desktop version neither can you screen record a presentation in your university account Powerpoint app.
We suggest using a desktop/laptop for recording your presentation. Otherwise you’ll need to download Google Slides app to your device from the App store.
Open the Google slides app, you can either open an existing presentation or create a new one.
When you are ready to present, you will need to add the Screen Recording app to your Control Centre.
Pull down from the right hand side to view core phone controls like Sound, Brightness, WiFi. Press the screen for a few seconds and you will be given the option to Add a Control, select this then select Screen Recording.
Then press the Screen Recording icon for a few seconds to reveal the microphone option, switch this on. Then press to start recording. Return to Google Slides and press the play icon to start your presentation clicking through the slides while presenting.
When you are finished. Return to the screen recording app and stop the recording. Your video will be saved to your Photos Library. Open your video and trim the start and end and Save.
