Panopto video/ Turnitin sign-in issue (Safari/ Chrome)

Some Apple (Mac, iPhone, iPad) users can experience issues viewing or uploading Panopto video/ Turnitin assignments in Blackboard. When you click on the Panopto option in Content Market you may see a Sign in screen instead of the Panopto interface e.g.

This issue and Turnitin not loading can be caused by the Safari/ Chrome browser blocking cross-site tracking (third-party cookies).

Solution for iOS (iPhone/ iPad) versions of Safari or Chrome

To access Panopto video/Student submission on your iPad/iPhone you need to allow cross-site tracking in your browser settings: 

  • Find and tap on the Settings button on your device. Scroll through the options and select Apps:

  • Scroll down the list of apps, select Safari or Chrome.

Inside the browser setting scroll down until you see the option for Prevent Cross-site Tracking, this needs to be unchecked.

Go back to browser and try to access the Panopto content.

NB you may need to restart your Safari browser.

 

Solution for Mac users on the Safari browser

You need to allow cross-site tracking (and allow third-party cookies) in Safari to access the Panopto LTI.

While still in the Safari browser on your Mac. Go to the Safari menu at the top of the screen.

  • Select Safari and then Settings:

  • Select the Privacy tab in the Settings panel

  • Uncheck the Website tracking checkbox.

  • Go back into Content market in Blackboard and select the Panopto video option

  • The Panopto interface should now open as normal.

NB you may need to restart your browser.

If this doesn’t work try using/ installing an alternative browser like Chrome (making sure it allows third party cookies see below)

Solution for Google Chrome Browser on a Mac

In your Chrome browser, go up to the menu at the top of the screen, select Chrome. Select Settings in the menu.

Then select the Privacy and Security tab, check your Third-party cookies setting - they should be ‘allowed' if they say 'blocked’, click on this option and set to Allowed.

Important: Before making any changes to Safari, please understand that Apple have decided to block cross-site tracking to prevent ad-tracking and keep your personal browsing private.

If you are concerned about privacy or are uncomfortable with making changes to Safari, please consider installing an alternative browser such as Google Chrome (Google Chrome – Download the fast, secure browser from Google )  and this browser to to access Blackboard Learn instead.
