Discussions
Discussions are public forums that may be utilised to discuss practical aspects of the course such as coursework submission or to engage in critical thinking around course topics. The discussions tab displays all the discussions that have been set up in your course. When you click on the Discussions tab in the course toolbar, you will see your module's discussion boards.
Any active discussions, eg. where staff and students are participating in a discussion, will display a little purple speech bubble, and a number will appear in the Discussions tab.
Click on the discussion you want to contribute to, you can post a response to the main discussion prompt or reply to any of the responses.
Click on the Post/ Reply button and a text editor window will appear. Here you can type a response or attach a file (paper clip icon). Click the Post/Reply button to send your reply.
All of the participants listed on the right hand side will be able to read your response and reply to you or the main thread.
New comments and responses will be highlighted and marked as NEW
Lecturers can see view how often each student contributes to the discussion board and some may mark your contribution to the discussion e.g.
Another setting lecturers can use is Post first, this means you can’t read posts that others have contributed until you have responded to the topic. This is designed to allow you to contribute your own opinion and not be swayed by what others think.
