When marking In Blackboard assignments in Ultra, there are two main ways to add feedback for your students. You can add general feedback as a summary in the sidebar or you can Learn Ultra, you can access assignment submissions through Gradebook or via individual Assignment dropboxes. You can also see all of your students' submissions that need marked on the global Marks page (accessed from the main Blackboard menu).

When marking assignments directly within the browser, you can use Blackboard Annotate (BB Annotate) to add inline comments and custom feedback in the assignment file that was submitted.

When you open your student’s submission in your browser, you can use Bb Annotate for inline grading in your courses. Bb Annotate offers a more robust feature set to provide tailored feedback to students. Features to add feedback (inline annotation) within the assignment file itself. A toolbar is displayed at the top of the main window where you can select how you wish to add feedback directly onto the assignment submission. There is a variety of tools to choose from with the most commonly used being text, freehand drawing and quicknotes.

Other features available include a sidebar summary view, freehand drawing tools, various colour selections, and much more.

Annotation sessions expire after one hour. You'll receive a warning message before your session expires.

When you have finished adding feedback, your annotations, feedback, text and other files are saved on the page. When you return, you can resume working.

Animated gifs display only the first frame in the pdf viewer for annotation purposes. Download the submission to view the animated gif.

Original formatting and embedded images are preserved. If a student submitted an unsupported file, you're prompted to download it. Assignment submissions created through the editor aren't compatible with inline grading.

Bb Annotate is supported on current versions of Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and Safari.As part of the responsive design, the menu display changes based on the screen size. On medium and small screens, the Document View settings display the page number you're viewing. Annotation tools are stacked under the View Annotation Tools icon. On small screens, the Content Library is hidden.
